Sihanoukville nightlife and bars

There’s more than a few watering holes in Sihanoukville. Here are a few of our favorites.

Maybe Later offers one of best cocktails in Sihanoukville. In fact, it offers several of them. Thanks to the trained mixologists on staff, the drinks menu is creative and delicious. Popular with expats, Maybe Later is a great place to sit at the bar and find out what’s happening around town. They also have a full Mexican menu and a Rambo-themed bathroom, both of which have their own appeal.

Sihanoukville bars

Even during low season the Serendipity beach bars are bumpin’.

There are lots of places to drink right on the sands of Ochheuteal Beach, and most of them are copying Sessions’ winning “tunes on the beach” format. Sessions has been around for years and unlike most of the other beach bars that play teen-oriented dance and Top 40, Sessions plays indie and classic rock. They’re open from early until late.

Two more popular beachside dives are Dolphin Shack and Rocky Bar. Dolphin Shack is a long-running favorite, and despite several location changes up and down the beach, they have stayed popular. Rocky Bar is newer, and like Dolphin Shack claims to be open 24 hours a day, but we haven’t actually stayed up late enough to verify that. Both Dolphin Shack and Rocky Bar offer a similar backpacker-oriented experience featuring cheap drinks, buckets of booze, and loud house and pop music. And both are packed with scantily clad young people getting trashed on the beach.

Monkey Republic Sihanoukville

We were too old to go to Monkey Republic at night, but we’re pretty sure it looks the same.

If you’re a backpacker or just like reliving your youth, head to Monkey Republic on Serendipity Road. There are cheap drink specials–some might say too cheap–in the form of $2 Jagerbombs and happy hour every night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The new Monkey Republic is even bigger than the last one. The place is busy every night, filled with backpackers in tank tops making the most of their holidays.

Five Men Fresh Beer

One coaster left on the table for every finished beer means it’s hard to lose track of the night. at Five Men Fresh Beer.

Five Men Fresh Beer is a beer hall and restaurant. It’s not open very late — they usually close before midnight — but if you’re looking to have a dozen or two beers, this is the place to do it. They make their “fresh beer” on site, a German-style lager or stout (ordered as white or black). The beer is served in iced glasses, so you can hardly taste them on a hot day, or notice how quickly they disappear. You don’t need to concern yourself with that, though, as the staff keep track of how many you’ve ordered by stacking an ever-growing pile of plastic coasters on your table. Read our full review of Five Men Fresh Beer.

Bar From Home is a small, friendly bar with expat staff and clientele.  They pride themselves on being a little slice of home, wherever that may be. Bar From Home has a collection of board games, cheap drinks, and lots of creative ways to get drunk, including beer helmets and bamboo shots, which allow four people to do shots together. They’re known for their late hours; they don’t close until the last customer stumbles out.

Utopia is another Sihanoukville institution, and always at the forefront of radical ideas, such as the selling of drugs (now banned), the selling of nitrous (now banned), and trading dorm beds for flyering. They’ve got cheap drinks, cheap beds, a pool and hot tub, and yes, there are pool parties. In the early evening the place is still popular with backpackers who come for the $0.25 happy-hour beers, but as the night wears on it becomes a bit sleazier. For all its flaws, Utopia is always a fun night out. – NOTE: UTOPIA HAS NOW CLOSED!
