Review: GreenBlue Resort, Koh Rong Sanloem

This peaceful resort has just four adorable but pricey bungalows.

We visited GreenBlue Resort on a cloudy day, and even though the skies were gray we could see GreenBlue’s potential. They offer a very private experience, with just four bungalows, which are simple but well-constructed.

GreenBlue Resort Koh Rong Sanloem

Private balcony, white sand, sea view. Check, check, check.

All of the bungalows have a private balcony with sea views. The square bungalows also feature a cozy upstairs balcony that gives a bird’s eye view of the placid waters of Saracen Bay. All of the bungalows have a hammock outside where guests can soak up some rays.

Each bungalow is equipped with a fan, mosquito net, and (reassuringly) a fire extinguisher. They also keep a flashlight and umbrella in all rooms in case it’s dark or rainy. We were told that electricity (which is needed to power the fans) is advertised as being available from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. and again from 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., but we have heard reports that hours are sometimes more limited. Breakfast is included for every bungalow.

GreenBlue’s simple island bungalows.

GreenBlue also has a seven-person fan dorm with two double beds and three single beds with a shared bathroom, priced at $12 per person. (Dorm prices do not include breakfast.) Note that the staff sometimes sleep there.

There’s a big restaurant right on the beach facing Koh Rong Sanloem’s picturesque Saracen Bay with excellent views and WiFi access during the times the electricity is on.There were a few Turkish items on the menu — the owners are from Turkey — but for the most part the menu was pretty same-y same-y, with prices on the high side ($6 for fruit salad, for example).

Although we liked the construction of the bungalows (the round one particularly), they seemed overpriced to us — at least the high-season rates. The uncovered thatch roofs of the bungalows look great for their first season, but are sure to be raining debris on the bungalows by high season. We had trouble confirming the prices.

We were quoted the following prices at GreenBlue Resort, Koh Rong Sanloem:

  • Round bungalow, double bed, ensuite: $60 in high season, $35 in low season
  • Square bungalow, king bed, ensuite: $80 in high season, $40 in low season
  • Triple bungalow, one twin bed, one double bed, ensuite: $90 in high season, $45 in low season
  • Maxi bungalow, two double beds, ensuite: $100 in high season, $60 in low season
  • Dorm bed: $12 in high season, $10 in low season

The walk-in prices we were quoted are the same as what is available on Booking.com, except for the square bungalow, which is slightly lower online.
