Long-term hotels and guesthouses

Hotels and guesthouses are a good choice for new expats.

If you’re here for a few weeks up to a few months, guesthouses offer an easy solution for those not ready to put down roots quite yet, with the added bonus of fresh sheets and towels without having to lift a finger.

Most guesthouses in town are willing to negotiate rates for long-term stays. On the low end of the scale, backpacker venues such as Okay Guesthouse in Phnom Penh will rent their rooms for less for long-term guests. Even if you book online, you can still get an excellent rate.

There are more mid-range places than it’s possible to list these days, with prices as low as $10/night. The new “Agoda Homes” lets you search for properties that you can live in, including private apartments and hotel rooms designed for long-stay guests.

For those looking for something a little more swanky, a two-bedroom apartment with kitchen and dining area goes for more than $200 per night at the Himawari Hotel Apartments.

In Siem Reap, some of the better budget guesthouses and hostels are here). Also be sure to check Agoda Rooms, where you can find everything from swank apartments to rural homestays.

In Battambang, Chhaya Serviced Apartments offer serviced apartments with kitchenettes for $270 per month. Banan Hotel is another good mid-range hotel choice, and Royal Hotel is a good option for the budget set, with rooms starting at $3 per night.
